Who Is This Course For?
This 2-day face-to-face course is designed for professionals who wish to become facilitators for the Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training (1-day classroom) within health, social care, and related sectors.
Delivered by an accredited lead trainer alongside co-trainers with lived experience, the course develops the knowledge, confidence, and practical facilitation skills required to deliver consistent, high-quality training. It also supports organisations in meeting the requirements of the Health and Care Act 2022 while promoting safer and more inclusive care for people with learning disabilities and autism.

Pre-Requisites
Participants must have in-depth knowledge of learning disabilities and autism, relevant training experience, and completion of the Oliver McGowan Tier 1 e-learning within the last 6 months.
This is a pass/fail course. Successful completion requires active participation and demonstration of competence. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Health Education England Oliver McGowan trainer PIN.
What to Expect from Your Training
Day 1 – Understanding Tier 2 Content
Participants will complete the Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training content to develop their understanding of learning disabilities and autism.
Morning: Learning Disability session
Afternoon: Autism session
Day 2 – Delivering Tier 2 Training
Participants will focus on delivering the training through reviewing course content, practising co-facilitation techniques, handling questions, and using interactive activities effectively.

Delivering Tier 2 Training After Completion
All Oliver McGowan training must be co-delivered with approved experts by experience who have lived experience of learning disability or autism. Organisations must have plans in place to recruit or train suitable experts by experience through the official Oliver McGowan training programme. Colleagues, friends, or family members cannot be used unless they have completed the approved training.
